Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the country, Table Rock Lake has been the biggest draw in the Branson area to homebuyers and vacation-goers alike for over 50 years. This pristine rock-bottomed lake is the ultimate vacation spot for nature lovers.
Table Rock Lake was created in 1958 by the Army Corps of Engineers with the construction the Table Rock Dam on theWhite River. This expansive lake now spans more than 43,000 to 52,000 acres and covers around 800 miles of shoreline. This has become one of the top attractions for nature lovers across the Ozarks.
Due to devastating flooding of the White River, construction of Table Rock Dam began in October of 1954. This dam began producing hydro-electric power beginning in June of 1959, which still provides the area with electricity.
Next to do the dam rests the Dewey Short Visitors Center- the “Crown Jewel” of Table Rock Lake. This Visitor center is filled with interactive educational exhibits for children and adults alike and reveals the inner workings of the hydroelectric dam. The Dewey Short Visitors Center was erected in 2012 and proves to be one of the most visited stops in Taney County.
Just below the dam lies the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery. This hatchery was completed in 1958 and was a necessity after the construction of Table Rock Dam. Since cold water is released from the dam to produce hydroelectricity, the 48-degree water caused the loss of the natural warm-water fishery. Shephard of the Hills Fish Hatchery produces between 350,000 to 400,000 pounds of trout each year, which are then released into Lake Taneycomo. Table Rock lake boasts an abundance of bass, crappie, white bass, catfish and bluegill. With a very aggressive fish management program, this lake proves to be an ultimate fishing destination in Missouri.
Table Rock Lake is the ideal getaway location for those who love to fish, swim, boat, ski, and camp and the rolling hills of the Ozark Mountains provide a scenic backdrop to kick back and watch the most beautiful sunsets on those hot summer evenings and crisp fall nights!
